An early morning barrage of missiles and drones orchestrated by Russia struck Kyiv on Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least nine individuals and injuring 46 others, among them five children, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attack prompted ongoing rescue efforts, with officials cautioning that the number of casualties might increase as operations continue.
The assault inflicted significant damage on residential areas throughout the Ukrainian capital. Emergency responders reported that at least 15 apartment complexes suffered damage or were completely destroyed. In particular, a nine-story building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district was severely affected, prompting rescue teams to launch efforts to extract individuals trapped amidst the debris.
In addition to the devastation in Kyiv, another fatality was recorded in the Bucha district, located to the northwest of the city. Russia’s Defense Ministry later acknowledged the operation, describing it as a “massive” strike utilizing long-range missiles and drones, aimed at military, energy, and airfield targets within Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.
This latest offensive follows closely on the heels of another substantial Russian attack that claimed at least 27 lives in Kyiv, marking it as one of the most lethal assaults on the city in the current year. The persistent aggression underscores the ongoing hostilities between the two nations.
Concurrently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the ongoing situation in the eastern part of the country, particularly around the strategically important town of Kostyantynivka in the Donetsk region. Zelenskyy refuted Russian assertions of having captured the town, asserting that clashes in the area are still actively unfolding.
